Garden Update!

July is here and soon we should be reaping the benefits of the gardens we toiled over in the spring right? Well, sadly not here in BC….it has been so cold and sooooo wet and my poor garden is looking a little worse for wear.

How about the bad news first? I’ve had to say goodbye to my beloved purple pepper plant…I was so excited for it! Luckily my two other green/red pepper plants are holding in there.

I also thought my cucumbers had been rained out as they were looking mighty shrivelled as well but lo and behold I discovered a wee cucumber on one of my two plants! Victory!!!

My tomato plants however are doing not too bad and I have one green tomato that is getting quite large!

My zucchini plants are also blossoming quite nicely, although their blooms are a bit battered from the hail we had two days ago….one of the blooms even has a zucchini!

Then there is also 2 wild pea plants that popped up that are doing quite well and we have already enjoyed a small handful of peas!

My strawberry plants are doing quite good although the bugs have been enjoying some of the strawberries, those wretched things! The lettuce is also slowly starting to bush out and I’m hoping to be able to start harvesting it soon! As such not all is lost, I have some hardy plants on my hands, we’ll just have to wait a little while longer than usual to reap the benefits!

I have picked up some miracle grow that I’ll be adding to my watering can once I can start watering again and hopefully that will help my little plants out!

By the way if you missed my other posts on gardening you can check out my post on chicken manure here and on planting my vegetables here!

How are your gardens all fairing? Any tips for keeping the bugs from eating my strawberries??
